Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and railway ticketing posts
Notification status
No official notice yet
No TTE-specific recruitment notice was found as of 27 October 2026. The closest recent ticketing post, Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk, was advertised in CEN 07/2025, and its applications closed on 27 November 2025.
Last checked 27 October 2026.
TTE stands for Travelling Ticket Examiner, the staff who check tickets on board trains. It is a title many people search for, but the latest NTPC undergraduate notice we reviewed (CEN 07/2025) did not list a post with that name.
That notice advertised Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk (CCTC), a related ticketing post. Treat CCTC, TTE and the graduate-level Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor as three different posts. Anything marked Reference below comes from a closed cycle and can change in the next notice.
Which post?
TTE is not the same as the posts around it.
Read this before applying
TTE is a common search term, but it was not listed as a separate post in the latest official NTPC undergraduate notice we reviewed (CEN 07/2025). That notice advertised Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk, a related ticketing post, which is not a guaranteed appointment as an onboard TTE. The graduate-level Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor is another, supervisory post. Do not treat these names, duties or pay levels as interchangeable.
A job title people search for is not always a post that is being recruited. Here is how the three differ, using the latest official notices we reviewed.

Questions
Common questions about Railway TTE.
Is there a separate Railway TTE exam right now?
Not that we could find. The CEN 07/2025 notice we reviewed does not list a post titled Travelling Ticket Examiner. It lists Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk. Check the RRB notice index for any new TTE-specific notice.
Is Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk the same as TTE?
No. They are different posts. CCTC was advertised in a public RRB notice, and getting it is not a promise of a TTE posting.
What is the TTE syllabus?
No TTE-specific public syllabus exists in the notices we reviewed. The closest verified one is the CEN 07/2025 syllabus: General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence and Reasoning.
Does the exam test railway rules and ticketing procedures?
The public CEN 07/2025 syllabus does not list them. A separate South Central Railway internal-selection syllabus does, and we show it only as supplementary reading, clearly apart from the exam syllabus.
What was the qualification for Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk in CEN 07/2025?
Class 12 or equivalent, normally with 50% aggregate. The notice made exceptions for SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, and for those with a qualification higher than Class 12.
Can I apply with a diploma or degree instead of Class 12?
That depends on the exact post and notice. Do not assume it for a future post. Read the qualification section of the notice when it is published.
What was the age limit?
For Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk in CEN 07/2025 it was 18 to 30 years on 1 January 2026, before category relaxations. That is specific to the closed cycle.
What was the initial pay?
Level 3 with an initial basic pay of ₹21,700 for Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk in CEN 07/2025. This is basic pay, not in-hand salary.
What was the test pattern?
CBT-1 had 100 questions in 90 minutes (40 General Awareness, 30 Mathematics, 30 Reasoning). CBT-2 had 120 questions in 90 minutes (50, 35 and 35). Each wrong answer cost one-third of a mark. Verify the active notice before relying on this.
Was there a typing test?
The CEN 07/2025 stage summary lists no typing test for Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk. It lists typing tests for two clerk-typist posts, which are different posts.
Is the ₹500 and ₹250 fee current?
No. Those were the fees in the closed CEN 07/2025 cycle, with a conditional refund after appearing in CBT-1. A new notice sets its own fee.
What is the next TTE application date?
None is confirmed. Applications for CEN 07/2025 closed on 27 November 2025. We update this page when an official notice appears.
Where do I find genuine railway recruitment notices?
On the official site of the RRB you are applying to, its notice page, and the application portal linked from that notice. Ignore unofficial links, social-media claims and anyone promising a guaranteed job.
Is ExamSphere an official source?
No. ExamSphere is an independent study platform and is not affiliated with Indian Railways or the RRBs. Always rely on the official notification.
